Maybe a better mission statement would be 1 John 2:6 Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.

I have been to Jewish Synagogues, a Catholic mass, a Mormon Temple, and a Jehovah Witness service.

Basically there is a feeling of lostness, while feeling vaguely familiar at the same time. The basic tenants were the same sining, prayer, lesson. But small nuances were different. The members felt comfortable while I felt lost.

The same is true when I visit Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran churches.

I have read it and even contacted the Brooklyn Tabernacle about their prayer ministry. Their response was basically a form letter, but I did get a mustard seed from one thing in the letter. They warned me that there would be plenty of "God-fearing" people that would revolt at the idea of meeting to pray. Prayer is a sign of our faith and it makes people uncomfortable being that open and honest.

When I have entered into a prayer group it has helped remind me to start slow, and realize that some people will float in and out because of their comfort level.

Great thought Tim,

It has been helpful for me to visit other faiths and carry that lost feeling back to my home congregation. Hopefully I am made more aware of visitors feelings and do what I can to include them.

Thanks, but we are an older congregation that really only knows the Hymns from book. I did look at Gary's song and it is beautiful, but we don't have the time to learn it for Sunday.

I guess I was just looking for older standards that would fit into the sermon.

Song Help 08-06-2007 12:07 Forum: MIND

I am looking for ideas of songs that will lead into a discussion of Philippians 4:8 "Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things."

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure it's not "Holy Is The Lord". That's the closest one I found on their album.

Holy,
Holy,
Holy is the Lord, our God
Holy,
Holy,
Holy is the Lord.

I believe that this is the greatest song written by Moore and Chapman. I have loved it since the first time I heard it and have even been guilty of praying it from time to time.

We are weird, but we don't date. We take our kids (6 and 3) everywhere we go, and our anniversaries are spent at Chuckie Cheese.

But that is how we were both raised and we don't understand people who leave their kids with babysitters anymore than they understand us. We believe that you have to do what works for you.

Every night we get 45 minutes of uninterrupted time. We spend that time talking and listening to one another without the T.V. and computers. The kids are asleep and we get to share the burdens of our hearts and the joys of our days.

I am blessed to spend a majority of my day with my wife and kids, I am the luckiest man on the earth.

I read from time to time, but I am a preacher, and the temple and music sections don't have much appeal for me since I can't read music and know nothing about instruments.

So I lurk on the mind section from time to time and check out the prayer requests every two days or so. But that's about it.

I decided last year that I was going to give TV up for lent. Never done the Lent thing before, but was willing to try. I noticed that I ended up spending my TV time with my computer Roll Eyes

I think that gadgets are wonderful, but sometimes I struggle wanting the newest (read Iphone) when I should be struggling to walk like Jesus walked instead.

Father, please allow us to be open and honest with you. May we find in this place a people who will rejoice with us and mourn with us. May we live lives that are in constant awe of how awesome you are.
